rewarding incompetence
so today, I feel compelled to blog about my extreme dislike for how incompetence is often rewarded in a corporate environment. how do people get away with this? he/she claims to "not" be able to do something for x, y, and z lame excuses ("I don't understaaaannnddd", and then, the boss, rather than show the lame-o interloper the ropes or ask the person to actually USE his/her brain, decides to 1) do the work him/herself or 2)pawn it off to an unassuming department that is willing to help out. That's is where I fit in. The unassuming department who technically shouldn't be involved in such a petty matter, but offers to help. Well, I will tell you, I'm on to the game and I have started to point out that 1) calling a vendor to get a sales contact isn't that difficult and 2) doesn't that sound like something the administrative assistant should do? But alas....corporate America. too hard to fire someone, too easy to pawn off work to other people, and too many suckers like me who end up bearing the brunt of the work because of an extremely strong work ethic and drive to GET THINGS DONE. it's just not that hard, people!

But How Do You?
My yoga teacher J.M. told us a story last night. She got in the elevator to teach an earlier class with a guy and intuitively she pressed "3" and "4" floors. (Third floor is a music studio, 4th floor is the yoga studio). The guy turned to her and snarled - what? I don't look like a yogi? So she said she assumed he wasn't since he had no gear. He said oh yeah - the problem with yoga is that it requires a so much gear. So she says to him - yeah the problem with music is that you have to listen to it. And the problem with my apartment is that it's $2000 a month. And... doors open on the third floor and he walks out. Brilliant. The problem is how you look at it isn't it?

Bring Out Your Dead...
It was a beautiful spring day today. I've always thought spring is a special time of year -newness, rebirth, awakening, hot guys paying tennis with their shirts off on the west side highway and all that stuff. But it just can't be that instantaneously. We have to participate to make it happen. Usually that involves cleaning out. Old junk, dust bunnies, go back to the gym, spiritual and emotional housekeeping etc. It's really hard to part with stuff and start new good habits. I have decided to give myself permission to do the cleaning and not feel guilty about why I didn't go back to the gym sooner, be more organized or why I held on to the junk for too long. No apologies. Everything can be shiny and new.
Bob Dylan sang-
Can't you hear that rooster crowin'?
Rabbit runnin' down across the road
Underneath the bridge where the water flowed through
So happy just to see you smile
Underneath the sky of blue
On this new morning, new morning
On this new morning with you

Rebirth
The hardest thing to do is begin again. An object at rest will remain at rest. And yet... we are compelled, called to rebirth. It's not like I want to be Madonna - 50 and dancing around in my underwear, and please if it comes to that somebody tell me to give it up. But, but there are stories to tell and this blog is a shared connection to the world. Well the cyber world but whatever, talking to people is overrated! So there it is. Resurrection without inspiration. Without a doubt there will be some floundering, some complaining, some condemnation but I feel a little proud that I'm not a quitter. I just take really long breaks.

the etiquette of leftovers
leftovers. here are my thoughts on the matter. by definition, they are something that you once enjoyed (hopefully) and have brought home, stuck in you refrigerator, and may or may not eat again at some point in the future. leftovers have a limited shelf life. often times, if you do decide to go there again, you have to add some heat to make them worthwhile. with very few exceptions, such as pizza. leftovers are generally tossed away, and do not last forever.
now, the question becomes, if asked, are you willing to share your leftovers with your friends? well, there are only two options here - share, or don't share.
Share. 1) if the leftovers are from a long time ago, you may hand them off to your friend with fair warning -- hey, these are really old, you *might* not want to eat them. 2) these leftovers didn't sit well with me the first time, but you are welcome to try.
Don't share. 1) if the leftovers were delicious, you might want to just keep them for yourself. mine, mine, mine. 2) if you don't think your friend will like the leftovers, you might discourage said friend from trying (which, in said case, you should have never offered in the first place) 3) you might think that you will have the leftovers later, so you'd rather not offer, in the event that actually happens.
However, if you decide to NOT share, your hungry friend may be bitter that you let perfectly good leftovers (from her mindset) go to waste.
this concept not only applies to food, but other aspects of life....and I'm wondering, is there an etiquette for handling this the topic of leftovers? I'd like to know.

Riding the A train has taught me...
Humming is a sign of being crazy.
Never look a crazy person in the eye.
But never turn your back on a crazy person.
It's an enigma.

Be My Guest
I’m having a pity party and your invited.
My subconscious has a way of working on things and I knew this one had been bothering me for a few days and it was time to bring it to the surface via this blog. Actually the culmination was in the McDonalds I inhaled a few hours ago. McDonalds is like a bad night of drinking. It happens every so often you regret it terribly and swear it off for life and usually for me it results in clinging to the toilet bowl for dear life (I’ll let you know in a few hours if that happens). So getting to the point of why I am upset. It’s TLC. It’s this show on TLC. “Little People: Just Married. “ Now this has nothing to do with begrudging anyone happiness, and certainly not the little people who totally got the short end of the genetic stick. BUT there are not many little people in the world. It just irritated me that the odds of compatible little people meeting each other and hitting it off is like 10 zillion to one and I live in a city chock full of people my size with a compatibility factor of Negativo. Who am I finding? Humorless, literal, romanticless, silo thinkers. Is it too much to ask to be swept off my feet by a perceptive, multi-dimensional, heartthrob (you know, like Brody Jenner)? I think not. Out of 8 million people how come I keep seeing the same ones? I’ve tried taking new routes to work, changing up my bars, cafes, library etc. I am stuck in a rut. So I am taking suggestions (and applications). This is a call to arms for all interesting takers who want to be my BFF. One thing is for sure, if I keep drowning the lameness sorrows in McDonalds I can add Weight Watchers to my list of place to meet my little person.

a present for all
so I've decided to shock everyone and post a blog. yes, i know, who'd have thunk it? for some reason, today, in the car ride from austin to san antonio, I decided that maybe I should become a writer too. Everyone's doing it, so maybe I should too....I mean, I'm supposed to be a double creative after all (per my numerology - a super successful and slightly power crazed 38/11) and I used to actually be somewhat creative, so why not start now. Besides, maybe I'll think of a brilliant story like Stephanie Meyer and be able to have my book(s) turned into movies starring a hot 22-year old british actor. or something like that...
anyway, it's the holidays and as such, i've been more lazy than usual. seriously, i think i took 3 naps yesterday, which was fantastic. i love being at my parent's house -- i am so spoiled, I can just lounge around, get called for meals, and bring my frozen organic cherries from the Whole to my mom to make me a pie. Can you think of anything better?
what else to write...um...i still haven't seen a movie -- that's next on the agenda. i'm thinking of checking out the Benjamin Button movie, because I actually saw part of the movie being filmed at Paramount AND I think brad pitt is hot. In that order....riiiiigggghhhhttttttt....And I also need to see Slumdog Millionnaire to prepare for my upcoming trip to India. So exciting.
alright, this is about all i can muster for now. merry christmas to all! and a happy, healthy new year! C - you're up.

Random Musings
-Why when you delete people from facebook intentionally do they add you back? Do they think it was an accident? Whoops I just deleted whiny Clarissa who I havn't talked to in 10 years and still don't even though we are cyber friends, who was annoying then and now has even more to be annoying about since she is married with kids.
-While wearing a suit 2 sizes to small for you, it's better not to make any sudden moves.
- When you really have fat chunky legs and your guy complements you on how muscular they are, keep him around.
-Between now and Dec. 25th whenever a friend asks for a "favor" you can expect to be dragging her Christmas tree down 7th ave. with her since she has no other little elf to help. (after you spring her from her apartment she got locked inside - see previous post).
-If you are tired of hearing "ohmygosh you've NEVER seen the Matrix!" start lying or just rent it for crissakes.
